On Thursday November 19th, the British Chamber of Commerce in Mexico held its traditional Annual General Meeting at the Official Residence of Her Majesty’s Ambassador. During this most important event representatives of both the Chamber and the British Business Centre (BBM) had the opportunity to present their accomplishments for 2015.
After networking cocktails the formal proceedings began with a welcome speech from HMA Duncan Taylor. The Ambassador talked about the ever so strong relationship between Mexico and the UK. He elaborated on the potential for British companies of all sizes to export to Mexico and on the positive outcome of the Dual Year.
Immediately after him, Stephen Smith OBE gave his last review of Chamber activities as President. He talked about the impressive growth in membership during the last year, the amazing support shown by the Business Sector Groups and the great variety of events hosted by the Chamber over the past twelve months. Finally he thanked all the board, members, former presidents, Chamber and BBM staff for their support and encouragement over the past two years. We would like to take this opportunity to thank both Richard Drabble and Stephen Smith for their key role in the BBM’s success.
In representation of BBM President, Richard Drabble, was José Mascarell, member of the Steering Committee. His presentation about our journey, activities and achievements from this past year included the full occupancy of BBM offices (and the construction of two more), our success in beginning to deliver services to UK SME’s, and our challenges going forward.
After the presentations ended. Stephen Smith announced Emilio Diaz, Managing Partner at Ernst & Young, as his successor. Emilio then took the floor to talk about his plans for the Chamber. From the BBM we wish him all the best in his new role as President of the British Chamber of Commerce in Mexico.
