On the 5th February the Chamber was honoured to host a networking-cocktail to inaugurate the new British Business Centre with VIP guests Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg and Minister of State for Trade and Investment Lord Livingston who were accompanied by a large delegation of British businessmen interested in investing in Mexico.

The British Chamber of Commerce, with support from the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) office in Mexico, has created the British Business Centre Mexico (BBCM) to provide support focused primarily on small and medium-sized UK companies looking to establish themselves in Mexico.

The goal is to create synergy between the two institutions, providing services related to the entry, establishment and strengthening of British companies in Mexico.

Former Chamber President Chris Sladen introduced Deputy PM Nick Clegg and welcomed guests emphasising the importance of partnerships for the Chamber and his high expectations for what the British Business Centre can achieve with the support of the UKTI and the Chamber.

The Deputy Prime Minister then addressed Chamber members and delegates praising Mexico’s openness, impressive growth and future potential as one of the MINT economies. However, just because Mexico is expected to grow rapidly and both the UK and Mexico are open to trade, success will not be “delivered on a plate”. One visit will not create business but follow-up visits and negotiations however with the support of the British Business Centre companies will be able to receive the support they need to navigate their way through the Mexican market.

Lord Livingston then reinforced this message saying how he hoped to see full flights coming from the UK to Guadalajara, Mexico City and other Mexican states ready to do business.

The speeches were then closed by British Chamber of Commerce Vice President Richard Drabble in his role as President of the British Business Centre. He took the opportunity to introduce the new director of the British Business Centre Guillermo Macias.

Members then stayed after the event to meet the Deputy Prime Minister and network.
